The NIMBY Space – Francesca Aldegani, 2024

Francesca Aldegani investigates the action of the ritual “The NIMBY Space:”

What is the NIMBY space? It should open up questions about the vicious aspect of our system, such as: Is there a way to escape from this perpetual logic of appropriation of resources? Does the solution need to be to learn back from our Indigenous ancestors? What is the sense of Leadership? Is, again, a conquering system (of the inner space of the planet) the only possible solution?

Camminiamo su carboni non più ardenti, su carboni spenti,,,,perchè il bruciabile è già bruciato. Ora è rimasto l’agente invisibile, che ci lascia interrogativi da riformulare su infinite parabole di dubbi. Camminiamo su carboni che hanno arso, sugli sbagli sempre dagli Altri commessi e sulle future certezze. Camminiamo nel presente, in un gesto semplice di riflessione, capovolgendo il senso del controllo e del comando. Camminiamo con lo sguardo che trapana la terra e chiede indietro la giustizia dell’umiltà. Camminiamo per vedere poi l’effetto che fa, per dare una forma all’informe, un colore all’incolore e un peso all’incorporeo. Camminiamo, per non stare fermi e per non correre.

[We walk on coals that are no longer burning, on extinguished coals… because the burnable already burned. Now the invisible agent remains, leaving us questions to reformulate on infinite parables of doubts. We walk on coals that burned, on the mistakes that Others have always made and on future certainties. We walk in the present, in a simple gesture of reflection, reversing the sense of control and command. We walk with a gaze that pierces the earth and asks for the justice of humility. We walk to then see the effect it has, to give a shape to the shapeless, a colour to the colourless and a weight to the incorporeal. We walk, so as not to stand still and not to run.]

Francesca Aldegani is a visual artist who lives and works in Vienna. She studied site-specific art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2013-2019), as well as Industrial Design and Techniques of Natural Fibres in Nomadism in Milan.
